With the ability to do things that have never been possible before, Bluetail is ushering in a new way of looking at how records are kept, managed, and stored. That takes a lot of stress off of AOG situations. In the last two years, we’ve gone from “What’s Bluetail?” to providing our services for hundreds of private and business aircraft – ranging from single-engine Cessnas to ACJs and BBJs – with a combined worth of billions of dollars. In fact, our platform now handles and makes searchable over 600M aircraft records. So, we decided to take the best of those modern digital technologies and develop a software as a service (SAAS) application that would not only simplify the keeping, storage, sharing, and security of aircraft records but provide growth potential that would genuinely disrupt a vital part of the business aviation industry. They didn’t take advantage of any of the benefits offered by advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, optical character recognition, machine learning, cloud-based storage, and Amazon’s revolutionary web capabilities –to name a few. But these were nothing more than trading paper for digital copies of pages – yes, they were digital, but in name only. We had been keeping tabs on the tech side of the aviation industry and knew there were already companies who would “digitize” aircraft records. Of course, situations like this weren’t news to anyone. The cost to replace that information has led to the permanent grounding of perfectly good aircraft. We’ve all heard horror stories of aircraft records or 8130 documents being damaged or lost. With all the technology found in modern aircraft, the idea of relying on paper seemed like a giant step back to wooden propellers and canvass-covered wings. The more we thought about it, the more sense it made. And, as a pilot myself with a minor degree in aviation, if we combined our technology experience, the answer seemed clear–we could change the world (well, at least the aviation part of it).Ī $12 Banker’s Box is no place to keep a $60M business jet. It seemed even more unbelievable especially given the advances we’ve seen happen in the tech space. My co-founder, Roberto Guerrieri, and I, who I’ve known for decades, asked ourselves why the aviation industry had not yet moved to standardized digital record keeping.
